our love songs

I was about to get ready and begin the last of my cleaning chores, so I began playing some music. I let the player randomly shuffle through my music and the first song to start playing took me on a trip back in time. The great (and sometimes not so great) thing about music, is how it is able to transport you to a certain time, place, experience, and/or emotion. Suddenly, I wanted to write a special post for today, since it is Valentine’s Day. I think I’ll share a few songs that mean something to Sylvanus and I.

“Sky” by Sonique – This was a song I listened to that made me think of Sylvanus. We were still separated by many miles and getting to know each other. In a way, it was a song I dedicated to him. Wanting to take him away from his miserable life and have him soar with me.

“Not Enough Time” by INXS – This is a song that Sylvanus sent me. It was his song that made him think of me and all the things he would like to do to and with me.

“What’s Left of Me (The Passengerz Remix Radio Edit)” by Nick Lachey – This was another song that made me think of Sylvanus. Knowing that he was being torn apart by the marriage he was in and seeing it slowly fall apart, I knew that this may change him. I knew that it would leave him with a hole and he’d have to start over again and find who he was. This song for me, was saying that I would accept what is left of him and make him whole again.

“Ecstasy” by ATB – This song will always bring a smile to our faces. This is somewhat of an “our” song. There is a very hot fingering in the car while driving down the highway story attached to this song.

“Touched” by Delerium and Rachel Fuller – This song was what we wanted to have play at our wedding reception during our first dance as husband and wife. Our wedding happened at a bad time (fall of economy) and many people could not show up, so we had to cancel having a wedding with a big reception with a dance floor and a first dance between husband and wife, but the song still holds meaning between the two of us.

“Waking Up in Vegas” by Katy Perry – Just a feel good song that became my ringtone during the year we got married. Just a fun song to listen to knowing we’d be waking up in Vegas and married.

“Ave Maria” by Sarah Brightman – This was the song I picked to walk down the stairs in my wedding gown and join my husband to exchange our vows.

“Your Song” by Elton John – This was one of the songs we were allowed to select to play at our wedding. We got married at the Bellagio of Las Vegas. We were wed outdoors on a private balcony that overlooked the large lake out front of the hotel. As we kissed as husband and wife for the first time, the fountains erupted and this song played for us.

“Time to Say Goodbye” by Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman – Maybe the lyrics aren’t ideal for a wedding, but this was the second song we picked for the Bellagio to play for us after our ceremony. Simply because I love this song and I think it is beautiful.

“Danza Kuduro” by Don Omar and Lucenzo – Ok, not exactly a romantic song by any means, however, it’s one of those songs that if it’s playing, we’ll be looking at each other and smiling. We first heard this song when watching Fast and Furious and it stuck. Since then, it has appeared on many occasions in many different places, helping us create more memories in life. It’s just a feel good song with a great beat. Hard not to smile and get up and dance.

So, these are the songs that have meaning for me when it comes to thinking about Sylvanus and I. As I composed this list, I realize most of the music that makes me think of us, all happened in 2009 and prior. It looks like we need to start listening to more music and making more memories with them in the present and the future. Regardless, it’s nice having this journey into our past and the pleasant reminders these songs bring with them.

Happy Valentines Day to my husband, Sylvanus and Happy Valentines Day to all of you. Hope it is a wonderful day.
