Happy Valentine’s Day

For my husband,

As I watch the people around me, complain that this day is stupid. That you shouldn’t need a day to express your love to someone, it should be done all year round. That this day is too commercialized and women have been brainwashed into thinking that their men don’t love them enough if they don’t come bearing gifts and words of passion. I choose to use this day as a reason to express my love and devotion to you.

Though our time together has been just a mere 5 years, it’s long enough to let the little things about us be taken for granted. Five years is long enough for us to settle into our daily routines and become comfortable in each others’ presence. Five years makes it easy for us to forget to say I love you, because we assume the other knows how we feel. How could they not right? We’ve been saying it for five years.

Well, today I am saying it once more. Better yet, I am putting it in writing. I love you, husband of mine. From the time you slipped that ring on my finger, you have changed my life in so many ways. For your love, I picked up my life from the only home I knew in California, not once but twice. Each time getting farther and farther away. Eventually, we’ll have gone around the globe that we’ll end up right where we started. *grins*

Because of your love and never ending dedication and devotion of me, I have opened my heart and expelled the jealousy. I have found the enjoyment in exploring new lovers with you, as well as giving you the gift of enjoying lovers without me. You have done the same for me. You have opened up your heart, giving me some amazing experiences.

You stayed by my side, when I opened my heart to include the love of another. You continued to stand be me when that love came tumbling down. You gave me support, you held me when I cried and you helped me move on. I don’t know of many men who would do that for me.

Now with the new year under way, our relationship feels more revived. We have made a pact to enjoy this year to the fullest. We are traveling more with each other and having our own adventures. Our beds may be filled with more lovers, or they may remain quiet, but what matters most, is that we will always have each other at the end of the day.

So, my husband, on this Valentines Day, I take the opportunity to tell you that I love you very much. Thank you for being by my side, for being my friend and for being as patient with me as you possibly can. I see many more years filled with love ahead of us. Let’s not miss a single day.

With much love,

Your Wife

I would be remiss not to comment here.

We’ve been through a lot. I have dragged you across a continent and an ocean, and in spite of the insane demands of my career, you’re always there.

No matter what I do, you support me. And that is a lot more than it sounds like in just one sentence! But it is something I never forget. I love you, darling.
